Ever wonder what part Baptists played in the American revolution? Some of our lesser known forebears were caught up in that great era of political unrest. They had much at stake in the American revolutionary cause as they sought freedom to worship God according to the dictates of their conscience. One such figure was Connecticut Baptist Stephen Smith Nelson (1772-1853), one of the co-signers of the now well-known letter from the Baptists of Danbury that was so influential on Thomas Jefferson as he and others were writing the founding documents of a new nation.
