Joseph Swain belongs to that select company of exceptional gospel ministers who are also recognized as gifted poets and hymn-writers. Though he was “little more than thirty-six years of age” and had “been in the public ministry only about five years” when he was called home to glory, his brief ministry to God’s people served his own generation well and lives on through his hymns. --Terry Wolever
