Duncan's "]life was one characterized by vision, hard work, persistence, inventiveness, resourcefulness, and concern that future generations of Baptists benefit from their predecessors. The study of history had been an inspiration and motivation for his own accomplishments, and he believed it could offer the same benefit to others. As a Baptist pioneer, he blazed trails, laid foundations, and provided structures (however roughhewn) for a strong Missouri Baptist identity." --Robert E. Johnson
