"Our need of being God taught"

An excerpt from a letter in The Works and Letters of Cleve Brantley. We've entitled this letter, "Our need of being God taught."
Faith is total humility. In ourselves and of ourselves we are nothing. Let us understand each other. If I am to teach you anything, I can do this only as God’s instrument. And you can learn only in the same way. Truth belongs to God. It is not within our power. We can never have any hold on truth; truth must take hold on us. We cannot grasp God; God must grip us. If we are to know truth, there must be divine revelation. I know no other teacher of truth save He, who is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive [John 14:17]. . . .This is humiliating indeed. But this is where we must come and this is the ground of faith. Make no mistake about it, true faith does not exist without total humility, and true humility does not exist without true faith.
