Anthony Chute, the author of the first essay in our upcoming book, A Noble Company, Volume 7, on Jesse Mercer (1769-1841) may well be considered a modern authority on his subject, having written two full-length books on this famous and influential Georgia Baptist. His essay on Mercer, as well as on Silas Mercer (1745-1796), Jesse’s father, in Volume 4 of our series, will challenge readers to pray that the Lord might in His mercy raise up more such spiritual giants in the present day. Without disparaging the leaders he has blessed us with, we would yet desire to see the more blessed consecration and greater power of testimony and influence that our forefathers bore for Christ. Reading the lives of such men of God as Jesse Mercer, as will the reading of books on God-sent revival in former times, can serve to stir us anew to seek to accomplish much in our own work for the Lord!
