J M and Sarah Paine Peck book review - Chapter 10

9th Oct 2024

The Rock Spring Seminary ended in 1831 and was transferred to Upper Alton, Illinois. The next chapter in our forthcoming book - John Mason and Sarah Paine Peck: Missionaries Extraordinaire - discusses that transition. The following is an excerpt from Chapter 10:

"Peck now transferred his time and energy from Rock Spring to Alton, believing he would be able to see his vision . . . fulfilled on the campus in Alton. With typical dedication, Peck put his 'shoulder to the wheel' working to make the vision become reality. Once Peck made up his mind, he was committed heart and soul to the transfer of Rock Spring Seminary to Upper Alton, which became successively Alton Seminary, Alton College of Illinois, and ultimately Shurtleff College (1836-1957). Only a friend with such respect and stature as Jonathan Going and the leadership of the Massachusetts Missionary Society, along with his local friends, could have persuaded Peck to transfer the Seminary."

Just a few weeks left before the book's release!! 386 pages, hardcover, illustrated and indexed. Stay tuned!
