I. M. Allen was one of those unsung but tireless compilers of denominational statistics who place those of us as later historians so deeply in their debt. His work lives on today long after his passing in the form of his two invaluable Baptist Registers for 1832 and 1836, as well as his untold other labors in behalf of our Lord and His people. His wife Eliza C. Allen was a contributing writer to several religious papers and editor of The Mothers’ Journal, and Family Visitant, a popular Christian periodical of the nineteenth century, which also had an untold influence in countless homes and families. ---Terry Wolever
