"It is with the outmost freedom I ad[d]ress myself to that reasonable service now required of me, of declaring in this publick manner, those Articles of my faith I have extracted from the word of God. In doing this I not only Comply with the practice of Ministers in general, but herein I follow the example of My Lord and Master[,] who before Pontius Pilat[e] witnessed a good Confession, who set his face as a flint, and was not ashamed to bear witness to the truth, but declared God’s faithfulness in the great congregation. Therefore in imitation of so glorious an example, I freely declare what I believe with my Heart, and have endeavoured hitherto to make known in my publick administrations, not daring to walk in Craftiness nor handle the word of God deceitfully; but by a manifestation of the truth commending my self to every man’s Conscience in the sight of God; according to the abilities He hath given me." --David Kinghorn
