Edward T. Hiscox devoted his life to building doctrinally sound, well-regulated, Baptist churches. For over half a century, Hiscox ministered to pastors while shepherding four New England congregations of his own. His 1859 work, The Baptist Church Directory, embraced for both its comprehensiveness and clarity, became the standard resource on church government and ministry for Baptists of his era and beyond. With a separatist heritage, a Calvinist education, a revivalist’s goal, and a pastor’s heart, Hiscox called churches to greater, spiritual fidelity. --Aaron Menikoff
