In Chapter 3 of our forthcoming book - John Mason and Sarah Paine Peck - Missionaries Extraordinaire, Peck determined to seek more theological education. In May 1816, he began attending William Staughton's Baptist Theological Institute conducted at the Sansom Street Baptist Church in Philadelphia. "The curriculum consisted of Latin, Hebrew, Greek, homiletics, English, geography, theology, studies in botany (in which Staughton was adept), as well as practical instruction in preaching at the Sansom Street Church and elsewhere in the area. A revival was in progress in the church. On the first Sabbath, Peck witnessed the baptism of 11 'in the spacious font in the centre of that great theatre.' "
