Butterworth (1727-1803) is the second essay in The British Particular Baptists, Volume 5, which is due out in mid-February

John Butterworth was representative of the English Particular Baptist tradition. A high view of Scripture as the final authority, with an ongoing challenge of interpreting it correctly and proclaiming it with anointing characterized him. He demonstrated a common (to the Particular Baptists) quality of lengthy pastorates and faithful ministry to God’s people. His theology and practice show both a commitment to Reformation soteriology and a Baptist ecclesiology. Finally, his strict theology was expressed in a tender Gospel appeal to sinners and saints. ----John F. Jones
