Appendix B excerpt from Ministers of the PBA

An excerpt from Appendix B: "The exceptional case of Eugene M. Buyrn, 1868" from Ministers of the PBA. In 1868, the Twelfth Baptist Church, Philadelphia, called E. M. Buyrn to be their pastor. Buyrn had developed a reputation in previous pastorates which raised alarm in the membership of the Philadelphia Association, including his being excluded from two New York churches. On learning of the call of Buyrn by Twelfth Baptist, a committee was appointed by the Association to look into the situation. . . . Buyrn’s case is an exceptional one, in that though he was called by a member church of the P.B.A., that call was rescinded on the basis of some firm and timely advice by the Association to that church.
